Lab-grown diamond studs for guys: what size to actually get
Smaller than you think. Real, not CZ. Here's the cheat sheet.
Start at 0.10 to 0.15 carat per ear. That's roughly a 3 to 3.4 millimeter stone: big enough to catch light across a room, small enough that nobody asks if it's real. If you want it to read from farther away, go to 0.25 carat, about 4 millimeters. Past that, on a guy's ear, it starts to look like a statement instead of a habit.
Lab-grown is a real diamond
A lab-grown diamond is carbon crystallized into the same structure as a mined one, grown with high pressure and heat (HPHT) or from a carbon-rich gas (CVD). Same hardness, same sparkle, same chemistry. The FTC dropped the word "natural" from its definition of a diamond in 2018 for exactly that reason. What you're skipping is the mining markup, not the diamond.
Cubic zirconia is a different stone. It's softer, it clouds over time, and it looks too perfect. That's why LUCE never sets CZ.
Carat vs. millimeters, for small stones
Carat is weight, but you see diameter. For a well-cut round stone, these are the approximate sizes:
0.05 ct: about 2.4 mm. A pinpoint of light. Good as a second piercing.
0.10 ct: about 3 mm. The everyday sweet spot.
0.15 ct: about 3.4 mm. A little more presence, still quiet.
0.25 ct: about 4.1 mm. Clearly a diamond from across the table.
The setting matters more than you'd think
A four-claw setting lets the most light into the stone and keeps the profile small. In 10k gold the claws are hard and hold up to daily wear, showers and sleeping in them. Screw backs are worth asking for if you're rough on your ears.
One or two?
One stud is a choice. Two is a set. Neither is wrong. If you're unsure, start with a single 0.10 ct in your left ear and see if you forget it's there. That's the goal.
How to start yours
LUCE makes these to order in 10k gold, from 0.05 to 0.25 carat each. Pricing comes back with your request, because it depends on the size you pick. Read 10k vs. 14k gold if you're weighing metals, then start your piece below.
